Political Promise

Political Promise

In Uncategorized on January 6, 2010 at 6:34 pm

I am one of hundreds of thousands of teenagers who believe we are getting a raw deal from society. The media are all too eager to point out those who young people detrimental to society: knife and gun crime, binge drinking, the exams are getting easier and kids are getting fatter and lazier.

The media aren’t interested in what I’m interested in.

In an age of a morally bankrupt government, a parliamentary expenses scandal, unrelenting climate change, shockingly innovative terrorism threats and an economy demolished by the worst credit crisis in generations, it is more enjoyable to look ahead rather than to the past. Our future is so bright, my generation is equipped with the greatest invention since the light bulb: the internet. I am proud to be British, not just because of its history and values, but the people who populate our little island. Whether it is the ‘stiff upper lip’, the courage, the honesty, the sarcasm, the ‘Wahey’ from across the road when someone falls over, British people are amazing. And the British youth is full of promise. In business, in science, in culture, in politics.

William Wordsworth once said: “The best portion of a good man’s life: his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love.”

That is what I enjoy. The silent contributions to society.

Today’s youth are tomorrow’s doctors, lawyers, politicians, writers, thinkers, scientists, business leaders, fathers and mothers. This blog intends to give an outlet for young people, to show just how much we care. I am not trying to launch a modern-day ‘Peasant’s Revolt’, I want to share our thought with the world. ‘We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams.’ Willy Wonka.

The name of this blog is exactly what it is full of. Political promise. British Parliamentarians are always talking about broken promises, well here’s one promise: the voice of tomorrow is here, it’s credible, it’s interesting and it’s worth listening to.

If you want to get involved, then get in touch, we would love to hear from you. Please, read, comment, argue, enjoy. Thank you for listening.
