Happy New Year to all readers and writers of Political Promise. Thank you for your support, comments and contributions. In two years, we blazed the trail to get our voices heard, set the news agenda and make some good friends in the process. After much deliberation, and on the 2 year anniversary of the site’s setting up, I have decided to shut up shop. Unlike most sites, which vanish mysteriously, I will keep the site running so the articles (of varying degrees of quality) can remain active and published. I am going to concentrate on writing on other platforms (if they’ll have me) and university. I want to thank Matt and Will who gave me the inspiration to do it, Sam and Lewis for making me realise it was time to stop, Jamie for designing our magazine and general persistance of me, Declan and Ani the only official-est members of PP staff and all the writers. But thank you, most of all, for reading.

What a year it has been for Political Promise. We have reached over 100,000 computer screens across the UK and have built a network of hundreds of students who have had articles published. Please please please vote for us in the Total Politics Blog Awards 2011 and if you want to get involved and write for PP, get in touch.

I firmly believe that students need a voice more than ever. As the Government undergoes education reforms, why were not our generation, who have the most direct experience of the state of our education system, consulted on the changes that needed to be made? On university tuition, anti-social behaviour, Olympic tickets, why are we not heard on the issues that affect us?
The concept of Political Promise is 18 months old next week. We launched to provide this generation, current school and university students and young professionals, the opportunity to have their voice heard. Once again, we are looking to expand our team. If you are interested in cutting your teeth in journalism, and want to write news or comment pieces for the website, email firstname.lastname@example.org with a paragraph about yourself, and I will get back to you. You do not need experience, nor need to live in London. Just enthusiasm, a computer and a decent vocabulary will do.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Charlie Edwards (Founder of PoliticalPromise.co.uk)
